Our Story: How it All Began
Liesel’s Loop began with a hook, a ball of yarn, and a spark of frustration.
It all started as a creative escape. I taught myself how to crochet and instantly fell in love with making amigurumi dolls - those expressive, charming little characters that brought so much joy and personality to my hobby table.
As any maker knows, the magic of a finished piece lies in the materials. I eventually found my absolute “go-to” yarn: a premium, 100% cotton yarn that gave my amigurumi the crisp, professional finish I was looking for. Even better, it came in a spectacular rainbow of over 100 colours. It was a crafters dream.
Then came the turning point.
Out of nowhere, the overseas suppliers ceased shipping to Australia. Just like that, the beautiful yarn that fueled my creativity was completely out of reach. The loss wasn’t just inconvenient; it was a massive wake-up call. I suddenly realised how limited we are in Australia when trying to source high-quality 100% cotton yarn in a diverse colour palette.
Determined to find a workaround, I spent months testing every alternative possible. I ordered from other suppliers, but the quality fell flat and the colour selections were sparse. I tried alternative shipping methods, but the eye-watering international freight costs made it completely unsustainable. Trust me, I tried a multitude of ways to source good yarn without spending a fortune.
That is exactly when Liesel’s Loop took shape. It was born not just as a small business, but as a direct solution to a frustrating problem. I wanted to create an alternative to the massive supply chains that offer limited palettes, and a bridge over the exorbitant costs of buying from overseas.
